Brazil invests in nanotech
The Brazilian Ministry of science and technology has announced that the country’s government will invest over 200 million euro in over 100 national institutes for science and technology, including 7 in nanotech. The whole project is possible thanks to a cooperation between the Brazilian government and the World bank.
Of course, there’s been a lot of research in the nanotechnology (especially nanomedicine) field in Brazil already. The government has been supporting science programs since 2001. The research crews presented results which pleased the country’s leaders, especially their cooperation with European scientists.
The two biggest research teams called NAMITEC and RENAMI announced that they will focus on several areas where they will try to implement nanotechnology standards:
- food production
- electricity and electronics
- aerospace
- textiles
- energy
The brazilian government is planning to achieve the following goals in the future:
- support at least 20 cooperative research projects per year between laboratories and companies
- support at least 15 basic research projects per year
- educate 100 nanotechnology professionals per year
