Nanoparticles without negative side effects
Nanoparticles have many applications, both in nanomedicine and nanotechnology in general. They are useful, but they have some side effects which are not desirable.
Scientists from the University of Missouri have developed a way of creating nanoparticles which have no harmful side effects. They acutally added gold salts into water, and then added soybeans β and that’s how a gold nanoparticle gets created. It’s really a quite simple process.
βThe best thing about this process is that we don’t have to add any toxic chemicals. That’s why we can categorize it as green.β says Kattesh Katti of UOM.
The key lies in the soybeans β they contain a substance which gets pulled out by water. It helps gold salts to transform into particles. The substance also helps to stabilize the particles and to keep them separated.
The research was funded by the National Cancer Institute.
