New cancer treatment

April 26th, 2008 Posted in Cancer, Disease treatment

Cadmium selenide or quantum dots nanoparticles tend to glow when exposed to ultraviolet light. When injected into a human body, they seep into cancer cells (tumors). Of course, the surgeon is able to see the glowing tumor and is able to remove the tumor more accurately.

Sensor chips, which are still in the testing phase, made out of thousands of nanowires are able to detect various proteins and other elements left by cancer cells. This could enable early detection and diagnosis of cancer using just a few drops of patient’s blood. Nanoshells are already been proven to destroy cancer tumors in mice.
