Russia investing heavily in nanotech
At the International Nanotechnology Forum held in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, a russian government representative announced that Russia will be investing $10 billion in nanotechnology in the mid-term.
“The whole amount of funds directed to nanotechnology equals $10 billion, 50% coming from the Russian Nanotechnology Corporation,” said Sergei Ivanov.
“All our government, corporate and venture investments in nanotechnology in the last year topped $13.5 billion,” said Ivanov. He said that all the investors believe that new discoveries in this field could put Russia in the field of innovative technology and “kill” their dependence of raw materials.
“We believe that nanotechnology can help Russia to grow, both economically and socially.” said Ivanov, quoting a message from the russian president Medvedev. He also said that innovative research could boost the standard of living in Russia, not just the economics. “We have everything that’s needed, and we’re proceeding as planned.”
