These particles seep through the skin

October 1st, 2008 Posted in Nanoparticles

Everybody probably knows that there are many small particles which have many applications in various spheres such as electronics, food containers and many other. They are called nanoparticles.

Researchers have just recently discovered a particle that is so small that it seeps right through the skin! A research lead by Lisa DeLouise, PhD brought to the world nanoparticles which are 1/5000 the width of a human hair.

The researchers at the Rochester Medical Center published a paper where they show how nanoparticles pass through the skin. The research was conducted on a type of mouse that is usually used for testing sunlight effects on the skin.

This is the strongest evidence yet that there are nanoparticles so small that they can actually seep through the skin.

„We wanted to find out if there are nanoparticles which can pass through the skin, and proved that there are. It can all be done under certain conditions.“ Says Lisa DeLouise, a chemist.
